Morristown — The academic leaders of the class of 2009 at Morristown Central School are Macy L. VanArnam, valedictorian, and Chloë P. Whalen, salutatorian.
Miss VanArnam, daughter of Bryan and Carly VanArnam of Morristown, has an average of 97.16. She is vice president of the senior class and a member of the National Honor Society and the National Vocational-Technical Honor Society.
Miss Van Arnam has participated in senior band, jazz band, Whiz Quiz and the mock trial program. She has received Section 10 All-Academic Awards in soccer, basketball, and softball for four years as well as the Nicole Fleury Memorial Sportsmanship Award for the West Division in basketball.
She has participated in the Allied Health Program at Northwest Technical Center in Ogdensburg.
Miss VanArnam was selected for a St. Lawrence University Augsbury North Country Scholarship, an Ogdensburg Rotary Club Scholarship, an Ogdensburg Zonta Club Scholarship, a Hobart and William Smith Colleges Scholarship, a St. John Fisher Presidential Scholarship, a University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award and an Elmira College Valedictorian Scholarship.
She plans to attend Elmira College to major in premedical studies.
Miss Whalen, daughter of Bridget Whalen-Nevin and Charles Nevin of Brier Hill, has an average of 96.18.
She is president of the senior class, vice president of the National Honor Society, and vice president of Student Council. She has played soccer and basketball and been an active member of the Athletic Council, the yearbook staff and the Spanish Club.
She received Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership honors and does volunteer work for the Gateway Museum and the Morristown Public Library.
Miss Whalen was chosen for a St. Lawrence University Augsbury North Country Scholarship, a Le Moyne Dean Scholarship, a Hartwick President’s Scholarship, an Elmira College Salutatorian Scholarship and an Arcadia University Distinguished Scholarship.
She plans to attend St. Lawrence University, Canton, with an undeclared major.
