FISHERS LANDING — H. Chalk & Son on Main Street has been sold and renamed Chalk's Marina & Boat Sales.

"The Chalks have set the bar pretty high," said the marina's new owner, Robert T. Foster, Hammond. Mr. Foster, his brother, Lawrence C., and his sister, Carol J. Guiton, purchased the marina earlier this month.

"We are going to maintain the same quality service they offered for the past 64 years," he said.

Harry C. Chalk and his wife, Hazel R., started the business in 1945 and passed it on to their son Duane J.

"I'm 79 and it's time for me to retire," Duane Chalk said.

Mr. Chalk said he will continue to live in Fishers Landing with his wife, Patricia M.

Mr. Foster, who also owns the Schermerhorn Harbor Marina in Hammond, said he was planning to retire but decided to open a marina in the Thousand Islands region instead.

"It's a beautiful area. It's one of God's wonders," he said.

Mr. Foster lived in Binghamton before moving to the region four years ago.
