Police say buggy hit car in Heuvelton

HEUVELTON — State police are looking for a hit-and-run Amish horse-drawn buggy operator.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, an unidentified Amish man went into the Sugarcreek store here and purchased a drink from store clerk Judy Dishaw, Ogdensburg.

Outside, the woman in the buggy was having difficulty controlling the horse, and when the animal lurched, the buggy hit the front left fender of a parked car — Ms. Dishaw's car — twice, police said.

The customer left the store, mounted his buggy, and off they went, police said.

A trooper talked with some other Amish people at the store, but was unable to obtain the identity of the hit-and-run horse handlers. The trooper left a name and phone number with the people in case they can determine who left Ms. Dishaw with a dented fender.
