BOONVILLE — The academic leaders of the class of 2009 at Adirondack Senior High School are Brandy L. Eggan, valedictorian, and Sydney M. Laramie, salutatorian.
Miss Eggan, daughter of John and Sandra Kowal Eggan of Boonville, has an average of 98.
She has been a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Model United Nations, Youth Advisory Council and the Girls Athletic Association. A class representative in the student association, Miss Eggan was vice president and treasurer of the FFA.
She has also been a scholar athlete and a captain in basketball and track and field.
Miss Eggan has played in the Boonville Town Band, All-County Band and the school jazz band as well as the pit band for two school musicals. She is a certified lifeguard and is employed as a waitress at the Rome Polish House. Miss Eggan also volunteers with the Rome Humane Society.
She is graduating from high school in three years, having doubled up on courses to complete her academic requirements.
Miss Eggan plans to major in biology at Elmira College with the goal of a career in neurology.
Miss Laramie is the daughter of Mark and Tina Laramie of Boonville and has a 97.96 average. A member of the Girls Athletic Association for four years, she has also been a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society and the Business and Marketing Honor Society.
Miss Laramie has been a member of the track and field and cross-country teams for six years. She has been named a scholar athlete for four years, earned four varsity letters and served as team captain. She has been involved in band for nine years.
Miss Laramie will attend Clarkson University, Potsdam, as a chemical engineering major.
