Lowville Academy and Central School class leaders

Lowville — The academic leaders of the Lowville Academy and Central School class of 2009 are Deanna Roggie, valedictorian, and Hannah Root, salutatorian.

Both have participated in Drama Club, bi-county music and New York State School Music Association Solo Festivals.

Miss Roggie, daughter of Gayla and Mervin Roggie of Lowville, has an average of 97.86. She has participated in peer tutoring, Students Against Destructive Decisions, the senior play, senior and select choruses, and bi-county chorus.

Miss Roggie, secretary of her class and the French Club, has also served on the Ethics Committee of the National Honor Society.

Miss Roggie has received a Russell Sage Student Sage Award, a 7 News Academic All-Star Award and a Lions Club Student of the Month Award. She plans to attend the University of Rochester with an undeclared major.

Miss Root, daughter of Catherine Williams and Daniel Root of Lowville, has an average of 97.82. She has been a member of the tennis team, the Art Club, the senior play pit band and crew, the Whiz Quiz team, band, jazz ensemble and the sectional all-state music program.

She has also participated in the Gifted and Talented Program, the school’s foreign language newspaper, the Lowville Village Band and the National Honor Society. Miss Root has served as president of the French club and the Youth Advisory Council.

During her sophomore year, she was a foreign exchange student in Germany, receiving a Bundestag Youth Exchange Award.

Miss Root has received an Elmira College Key Award and a Lions Club Student of the Month Award. She plans to attend SUNY Geneseo with an undeclared major.
