Aubertine denies talking to Obama about running

State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent, said he did not talk recently to President Barack Obama, despite a suggestion otherwise on "Daily Intel," a blog by New York magazine.

"There's also buzz that Obama might have spoken with another Democratic senator, Darrel Aubertine, who is reportedly considering a run for Congress," Jacob Gershman wrote Thursday.

Mr. Aubertine did admit that he talked Saturday about the seat with Rep. Steve J. Israel. The Long Island congressman is recruiting candidates on behalf of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Mr. Aubertine has said he is interested in the opportunity created by U.S. Rep. John M. McHugh's nomination as Army secretary, but has not committed to running for the seat if it opens.
