CANTON — Four St. Lawrence County residents are being tested for swine flu, according to Public Health officials.
Deborah M. Kent, interim Public Health director, said samples were taken from one adult and three children. She did not say where they live.
"Two had been hospitalized and two had not, but they met the criteria for being suspicious," she said.
Mrs. Kent said swine flu, or H1N1 virus, is suspected when a patient has symptoms similar to seasonal flu, like fever and respiratory illness, that are more severe and steadily worsen.
She said she expects to receive the state's test results today.
The county so far has reported only one confirmed H1N1 case, an inmate at Riverview Correctional Facility, Ogdensburg.
