Mrs. Bernice M. Wagner, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Friday evening, June 19, 2009, at Mercy Care Center of NNY, Watertown.
Born March 8, 1925, in Watertown, daughter of the late George W. "Walt" and Beatrice LaBreck Wilson, she attended St. Patrick's School, Watertown, and St. Mary's School, Clayton. She married Robert J. Wagner November 2, 1947 at St. Andrew's Church, Sackets Harbor. Mr. Wagner died November 17, 1990.
She was an organizing member of the Decoy & Wildlife Art Show for twenty years, emeritus trustee of the Shipyard Museum (Antique Boat Museum), and was a trustee of the Old Town Hall Museum (Thousand Islands Museum) for many years. Mrs. Wagner was also a member of St. Mary's Church, its St. Anne's Altar and Rosary Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary, all in Clayton. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, playing cards, crossword puzzles, gardening, music, dancing, and volunteering. She was also an avid race fan, attending stock car races and go-kart races in which her two brothers competed.
Surviving are two daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon M. and Donald M. Harten, Watertown, and Linda L. and Daniel P. Schleher, Clayton, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 uncles, nieces, a nephew, and cousins. A brother, William J. Wilson died in 1972 and her youngest brother, George W. Wilson, died in 2003,.
There will be no calling hours. A family graveside service in Old St.. Mary's Cemetery will be held Friday, June 26, at 1 PM. Mrs. Wagner's nephew, Rev. Thomas W. Wilson, pastor of Smithville Baptist Church, will be officiating. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.
