CANTON — John Edward Lynch, 87, of Moncks Corner, SC, formerly of 51 Riverside Drive, Canton, NY passed away on June 22, 2009, at his daughter Valerie's residence where he had been living since July 2008. John had been in the care of Solaris hospice, since the early part of 2009, he had been battling squamous cell cancer since 2000.
There will be a private family interment at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton, NY. John will be buried beside his mother. Arrangements by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Solaris Hospice, 3751 S. Live Oak Drive Ste. E, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 or to the Canton Goldenaires Barbershop Chorus, 4 East Drive, Canton, NY 13617.
John was born on December 4, 1921, in Canton NY, a son of Edward Lynch and Josephine Chapin Lynch. He was an only child. His parents divorced when he was young. He married Doris McCormick in 1949, that marriage ended in divorce, and he never remarried. John graduated from public school in Canton, NY and from Canton College with an Associates Degree. After enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942, he was sent over seas to Greenland where he was a mechanic working on warplanes during W.W.II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Corporal. After his military service he worked for the US Postal Service in Canton, NY from 1946 until his retirement in 1976. John was known to many of the people he delivered mail to as an honest, quiet man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His great ability to talk politics, economics, and cars was phenomenal. He was quiet stoic man and yet loved by his children. He was predeceased in death by a son Kevin who died in 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Allyson of Anderson, SC and Valerie of Moncks Corner; a son, Michael of Philadelphia, NY; two grandsons, Ryan of Anderson, SC and Arnold John "A.J." of Watertown, NY.
