Selena A. Abbey, 60, of Rt. 365, passed away on June 21, 2009, at Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care where she had been hospitalized for many weeks, and after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on June 7, 1949, in Watertown, and graduated from Watertown High School. She was a member of the Oneida County Cornell Cooperative Extension, a master gardener, an artist, and a writer, where she wrote poems and short stories. Selena was a loving wife and mother that cared very much about her family. She was a great cook and a hard worker, and had been disabled for many years because of a liver transplant, but she managed to survive 23 years afterwards.
Surviving are her husband, George Abbey, Jr., Remsen; one daughter, Sandra l. Hartle, Rome; a step-son, Kevin Abbey, Utica; step-daughter, Patricia Davis, Fulton; four grandchildren, Josh Hartle, Britany, John, and Brandon Davis; her mother and step-father, Angie and James Gilbo, La Fargeville; one brother, Milton Alexander, NC; sisters, Carrie Larrabee, La Fargeville, and Valrie Ellsworth, Watertown; and several half sisters and brothers from the Watertown area.
