DEXTER — Rose M. Greenizen, age 91 of Star School House Rd. Ext. passed away Monday 4:30 P.M. under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and her family.
Rose was born December 28, 1917 in Frankfort, N.Y. the daughter of Benedetta and Vincenzo Shirtina Donzella. She attended school in Frankfort and Syracuse.
During World War II, she worked for the War effort at Carrier in Syracuse as a machine operator in the sheet metal press room. She married Raymond M. Greenizen on January 12, 1946 in Liverpool and the couple moved to Dexter where they owned and operated a dairy farm. Mr. Greenizen passed away in 1993.
Rose was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Brownville and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening.
She is survived by two children and their spouses; David and Nancy Greenizen of Dexter and Linda and Clifton Snyder of Dexter. She has five grandchildren; Clifton Snyder of Watertown, Greg Greenizen of Detroit Michigan, Scott Greenizen of Clayton, Melissa Townsend of Dexter and Melinda Whalen of Dexter. She also has eleven great grandchildren, a brother Jim Donzella and his wife Virginia of Syracuse, a sister in law Mary Donzella of Syracuse, a niece she helped raise Ida Capria of Central Square, her caregivers Sara Marino and Bonnie McCormick and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers Sam Donzella and Joseph Donzella and a sister Ida Schaup.
Funeral services will be Thursday 10:30 at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with a mass at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County Respite Home, Immaculate Conception Church and the Altar and Rosary Society or Dexter Fire Dept. and Ambulance Squad.
