ANTWERP — Lauren A. Finley, 76, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at his home under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his loving family.
Lauren was born on October 30, 1932 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Carl and Edna Mae (Williams) Finley. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1951 and went to Roberts Barber College and graduating in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952-1953.
Lauren married Maude L. McEathron in June of 1955. She passed away in July of 1956. He married Hazel L. Church on May 30, 1959 at the Fullerville Methodist Church with Rev. Albert Cameron officiating. Lauren worked as a barber for many years. He also worked at St. Joe Mineral Corp. as a repairman retiring in 1988. He and his wife, Hazel lived in Hailesboro for 38 years moving to Antwerp in 1997. He was a member of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church, serving on various committees. He enjoyed woodworking and being at Aldersgate.
Besides his wife Hazel, he is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-laws Donna L. and Eric Peck of Antwerp and Linda Ann and Wayne Major of Canton, NY; two brothers Herbert C. Finley of Elmdale, NY and Laurel L. Finley of Spragueville, NY and eight grandchildren.
Lauren is predeceased by two brothers E. Finley and Murray Finley who died in infancy and a grandchild.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 on Saturday at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Wilfred Baez officiating. Burial will follow at Hailesboro Cemetery.
