Tim McCreadie didn't have to wait too long to visit the winner's circle. The Watertown native, coming off second-place finishes at Cornwall (Ontario) and Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville, won the 40-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series "Great Northern Tour" A-Main feature Tuesday night at the Canandaigua Speedway.

McCreadie was mobbed in victory lane by a horde of happy fans. As in his two previous races, McCreadie was emotional about the outcome.

He told, Kevin Kovac, World of Outlaws late model series public relations director after the race, "This is just amazing. To win here, in front of these people at one of my home tracks and with my dad (Bob) here, it's such a cool feeling."

McCreadie took the lead when another former DIRTcar big-block regular, pole-sitter Tim Fuller of Watertown, retired to the pits following a broken drive shaft during a lap-four caution. McCreadie was untouchable for the remaining 36 laps.

The victory was worth $7,200 to McCreadie's race team. It was his 12th career late model series win.

Reached Wednesday, McCreadie was preparing for races beginning tonight at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.

"I took the lead when Tim (Fuller) had the unfortunate luck early in the race," McCreadie said. "My back didn't hurt as much after Tuesday's race as it did in the previous ones. I can tolerate pain when we are doing well."

McCreadie recently returned to racing after suffering a fractured vertebra on Jan. 15 in a wild crash during qualifying for the Chili Bowl midget nationals in Tulsa, Okla.

Father DeRea, a priest with the Missionaires of the Sacred Heart, has served as a chaplain to racing for more than 30 years.
