BROWNVILLE — James A. Lines, 84, of 300 Rice St., formerly of Adams, died Wednesday evening at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been a patient since May 16, 2009. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Leon "Toby" Schilling, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Rodman. Calling hours are 3 - 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home. American Legion Post 586, Adams, will hold a Memorial Service at 2:30 pm.
Born March 30, 1925 in South Hadley, MA, son of William and Agnes Weir Lines, he graduated from South Hadley Falls High School in 1943. He entered the US Army in 1943, where he served in Germany.
He married Jeanne M. Loveland of Adams, Sept. 23, 1945 at the Adams Methodist Church. Following his discharge in 1946, he worked for his father in law, Rolla Loveland, at Loveland's Service Station in Adams. After the retirement of his father in law, he continued the business and became partners with Keith Hockey, until they closed the station in 1979. Mr. Lines continued to work locally for Dobbins Auto Parts and Fuccillo Auto Mall, before retiring in 2005.
Mrs. Lines died October 4, 1980.
He is survived by one daughter and son in law, Karen and Stephen LaFontaine, Chaumont; one grandson and his wife, Jon and Andrea LaFontaine, Theresa; one grand daughter and her husband, Jill and Jamie Kircher, Port Jefferson Station, NY; four great grandchildren, Calandra Jeanne and Jon Stephen James LaFontaine, Lilli Kathryn and Jamie Arthur Kircher; two sisters and brothers in law, Barbara and Robert Wilson, Yorktown, VA; Ruth and William Pitcher, Chatham, NY; one sister in law, Judy Peck, Zellwood, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two infant sons, Thomas and Jonathan, and one brother, William Lines.
Mr. Lines was a life member of the South Jefferson VFW Post 5344, Don Rounds American Legion Post 586 and the Adams United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the South Jefferson Lions Club.
He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and spending time with his family.
