HARRISVILLE — Roswell A. Cring, 97, of 14227 Church Street, Harrisville, died Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2009 at the Carthage Area Hospital.
He was born on December 25, 1911 in Harrisville to Rupert and Ethel LaPlatney Cring.
He married Doris H. Parker on November 18, 1933, at First Methodist Church, Carthage. Mrs. Cring passed away on January 31, 1999.
He attended Harrisville Schools. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII, and the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day.
Mr. Cring was the former mayor of Harrisville for 20 years. He was part of the Harrisville Fire Department for 15 years, the town of Diana board for 20 years, a member of the Diana Company Hunting Club, and a member of the Adirondack Grange. He retired from the former St. Regis Paper Mill in Harrisville. He was a member of the Harrisville Legion, the Carthage Elks Lodge BPOE #1762, and he was the President of the Harrisville Senior Citizens Organization.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sue, Harrisville; a sister, Ruperta Hale; Massena; a granddaughter Rebecca Gring, Harrisville; two grandsons and their wives, Philip and Lisa Cring, Omaha Nebraska; and James and Linda, Dallas, Texas; and three great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife; a daughter Debra; and two brothers, Kenneth and Lloyd.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 30th from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Harrisville. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at 11:00 AM at the Harrisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frances K. Hemstreet officiating.
