DEKALB JUNCTION — A second flea market has opened on Route 11 between DeKalb Junction and Richville, partially filling the void left with the departure in recent years of two antiques outlets here.
Four Seasons Flea Market is owned by Donna J. and Roger G. Farr, who were managing Journey's End flea market, which opened in December.
"We decided we might as well work for ourselves. This is the area we wanted in the first place," Mrs. Farr said. "We're all still friends."
Mr. and Mrs. Farr took over a building next to the Silver Leaf diner that once served as headquarters for Diesel Dan's truck stop. The location works well because the businesses can help each other. Mrs. Farr is related by marriage to Silver Leaf owner Loretta A. Thayer.
"It's worked out great because I help at the restaurant if they need me," Mrs. Farr said. "It helps us too. We have plenty of parking."
The flea market has six vendors who offer primitives, movies, books, glassware, Americana and small used furniture.
"This one is busy because we have antique tools," Mrs. Farr said.
The flea market is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesday, when it is closed.
DeKalb Junction used to be a center for antiques and flea markets. Junction Antiques was in business for more than 30 years before it closed in 2006. B&W Collectibles shut down a year later. Northern Antiques, south of the hamlet on Route 11, doesn't have regular hours. Two other shops in DeKalb Junction, The Old General Store and Treasured Antiques, remain open.
