OSCEOLA — William P. 'Bill' Stedman, 53, of Cemetery Rd., passed away June 27, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. He was born February 4, 1956 in Oneida, a son of Lloyd and Grace Comins Stedman. He attended Sandy Creek and Camden Schools. In 1974 Bill joined the U.S. Army and served as paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division for three years. After the Army he worked on the oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. He was a certified scuba diver. He then worked for 10 years with the New York State Fish Hatchery and spent the last years of his life as a self employed logger and trapper. He was well known for his trapping and hunting expertise.
Surviving are two daughters, Lacey Mae Stedman, Maegen Marie Stedman, both of Syracuse, a sister Susan Jackson and friend Daniel Scheppard, Sandy Creek, three brothers, John Stedman and wife LaVonne, Woodbridge, VA, Lloyd and wife Annie of Fairway, KS, Robert and wife Debbie of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 4th at the Redfield Fire Hall with lunch to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Redfield Vol. Fire Dept. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY.
