Price Chopper and Hannaford have recalled dozens of varieties of ground beef and sirloin steaks because of possible E. coli contamination.

The meat was sold May 7 to 16 at many locations throughout the state, including Watertown, Ogdensburg and Malone.

Customers can return the meat to the stores for a full refund. For more information, call 1 (800) 666-7667, option 3, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hannaford spokesman Mike Norton said the supermarket chain learned on Sunday that its stores may have received beef that's subject to a voluntary recall by Colorado-based JBS Swift Beef Co.

He said customers should check their freezers for any ground beef or beef products with sell-by dates ranging from April 28 through June 6. Hannaford will provide a refund or replacement.

JBS Swift announced Sunday it's voluntarily expanding its beef recall to include about 380,000 pounds of products because of possible E. coli contamination.
