D.L. Schwendy

LOWVILLE — Dorotha Louella Schwendy, 89, of Waters Road, Lowville, died Wednesday morning, July 1, 2009 at her home.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, burial will follow in Beaches Bridge Cemetery, Watson. Calling hours are Friday, July 3, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Lowville United Methodist Church, 7618 North State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Pearce, a son and daughter-in-law, Donald P. and Cathy Schwendy of Geneseo, Jean D. and Roberts Mallabar of Colchester, VT, Carolyn J. and Gary Iseneker of Lowville, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Clifford Schwendy of MD, a sister-in-law, Doris Stanton, of Lowville, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a brother, Arthur E. Stanton, and a sister, Ada Poulsen.

Mrs. Schwendy was born on August 18, 1919 in Lowville, a daughter of the late Earl K. and Louella Failing Stanton. She graduated from Lowville Academy. After graduation, she did domestic work for area families until her marriage. On June 3, 1941, she married Pearce J. Schwendy at Lowville United Methodist Church. The couple worked on the Schwendy family farm, taking over ownership in 1960. The couple owned and operated the farm on Waters Road until retirement in 1998.

She was a member of Lowville United Methodist Church, a member of Lowville Grange #71, member of New York State Grange, Pomona Grange, and National Grange. She enjoyed working at the Grange booth at the Lewis County Fair, she enjoyed arranging and taking bus trips throughout the eastern United States and square dancing. She enjoyed preparing club dinners for the Grange and other events and reupholstering.
