CARTHAGE — Leroy H. Cook, 73, Loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. "He will be greatly missed!" Formerly of 110 Bridge Street, and current resident of the Skilled Nursing Unit, Carthage, died Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2009 at the Carthage Area Hospital under the care of his family. He was born on July 2, 1935 in Carthage, New York to Ernest and Rose Love Cook.

He attended Carthage High School. Throughout his teen years he worked as a pin boy at the local bowling alley on State Street in Carthage, and at the A&P. He married Dolores (Dickie) Cook on May 5, 1955 in the former Presbyterian Church which is now the United Community Church, in Carthage; attendants were late brother & sister in Law of groom, Clair & Virginia Cook. He then worked for Acme Markets (former market basket) as a produce manager for 24 years, until they closed; He became disabled in 1979 due to a fall at work.

He was an avid bowler and he bowled in many leagues over the years. He was a member of the Carthage Elks Lodge; He enjoyed his camp and boat on the Black River. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Lynette and her husband Martin Tokos, Adams; one son, Kevin Cook, Carthage; Two grand-daughters, Chaya and her husband Martin Charles, Brewerton; Bianca Tokos, Adams. Three sisters, Bessie Trembley, Ruth and her husband Paul Ventiquattro, and Barbara Ventiquattro; and one sister in law Doris. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by four brothers; Raymond, Clair, Walter, and Richard Cook; three sisters, Hattie Stephenson, Dora Pierce and Janice Cook.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home Inc. 500 State Street. Carthage from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the funeral home with the Reverend Linda J. Harris, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage. www.lundyfunerahome.com.
