Five injured in crash; driver one of several charged with DWI

Five people were treated Saturday morning at a Utica hospital for minor injuries they suffered when the sport utility vehicle in which they were riding left South Shore Road, Greig, and struck a tree.

The driver, Adam R. Little, 22, Rome, was charged by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department with driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to keep right and speeding.

Police said his blood alcohol content was 0.12 percent. State law establishes 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication.

Treated at St. Elizabeth's Hospital were Linsdey A. Zullo, Brenda A. McMahon, Richard T. Kosakowski, John D. McMahon and Carolyn E. Zullo. Their ages and addresses were not provided by police.

Also charged with DWI and related offenses:

■ James C. Howell, 39, of 498 Spragueville Road, Gouverneur, also was charged early Friday with resisting arrest, failure to keep right, having improper plates, having no driver's license or insurance and having an unregistered and uninspected van, village police said.

Police said Mr. Howell was stopped on William Street, Gouverneur; while being interviewed, he bolted from police, who gave chase. He was found a short time later at Nice N Easy, West Main Street, police said.

He was arraigned in Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $500 cash bail. He registered a 0.12 percent BAC, police said.

■ Bruce A. Lee, 50, Dexter, was charged by state park police with felony DWI, driving under the influence of drugs, operating a motorcycle without a proper operator's license and being an unregistered camper at Keewaydin State Park following his arrest early the afternoon of June 27 on Walton Street in Alexandria Bay, police said. He is charged with a felony because he was convicted of DWI in 1999 in the town of Wilna.

■ Nathaniel D. Arnot III, 40, Baltimore, Md., was halted by state park police on Interstate 81 in the town of Orleans after having been followed from Route 12, and also was charged at 12:05 a.m. Monday with failure to signal a lane change, making an unsafe lane change and unlawful possession of marijuana. His test reading was 0.14 percent BAC, police said.

■ Paul A. Deloney, 40, Ogdensburg, also was charged Friday night in Potsdam with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and marijuana possession, state police said. Troopers said he had a BAC of 0.16 percent when he was pulled over on Route 56 in the village. He was arraigned in Village Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $500 bail or $1,000 bond.

■ Joseph C. Cassillo, 23, Herkimer, also was charged early Saturday in Tupper Lake with refusal to take a sobriety test, unlicensed operation, failure to keep right and operating an uninspected motor vehicle. Village police said Mr. Cassillo had a BAC of 0.17 percent when he was pulled over on Lake Street.

■ Christine P. Snyder, 22, Tupper Lake, was charged Wednesday with felony DWI and failure to dim headlights when she was stopped on Demars Boulevard, Tupper Lake police said. She refused a breath test. The felony charge indicates a prior DWI conviction within the past 10 years.

■ Amanda L. Blethen, 21, Potsdam, was charged at 2:40 a.m. Friday with aggravated DWI and making improper left and right turns when she was stopped on Munson Street, Potsdam police said. She registered a 0.18 percent BAC, police said. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

■ Bradley K. Bookman, 23, Pulaski, also was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation following his arrest by state police at 1:05 a.m. Friday on Bremm Road in the town of Sandy Creek. He tested at 0.11 percent BAC, troopers said.

■ Lawrence A. O'Shea, 51, of 15714 County Route 59, Dexter, was charged by state police with aggravated DWI, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident and operating an unregistered vehicle shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday on Route 59. He had a test reading of 0.18 percent, police said.

■ Jermaine M. Kidd, 34, Potsdam, was charged at 3:20 a.m. Thursday with DWI, refusal to take a breath test, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and two traffic violations when he was stopped on Pierrepont Avenue, Potsdam police said.

■ Edwin F. Bridge, 72, of 32191 Wilton Road, town of Champion, was arrested at 2 a.m. Friday by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies on Route 126 in West Carthage, where he additionally was cited with crossing hazard markings. His test result was listed as 0.15 percent BAC.

■ Brian J. Lear, 42, Dexter, was charged by state park police with aggravated DWI, failure to keep right and speeding at 30 mph in the 15-mph speed zone of the entry road to Keewaydin State Park at 1:25 a.m. Sunday. Police said he registered a 0.19 percent BAC.

■ Cheryl Byerly, 29, of 424 Prospect St., Watertown, initially was cited with failure to keep right when she was halted at 2:15 a.m. Sunday on Route 12 in the town of Alexandria. State park police listed her breath test reading as 0.16 percent.

■ Clayton T. Fleming, 31, Copenhagen, was arrested by state park police at 11 p.m. June 27 at Westcott Beach State Park and additionally was cited with aggravated unlicensed operation and failure to signal a turn. He tested at 0.13 percent BAC, police said.

■ Brian Arquette, 42, of 132 Tullman Road, Ogdensburg, was charged Wednesday after he was stopped on County Route 6 in the town of Oswegatchie, state police said. He registered a 0.16 percent BAC, police said.

■ Herbert Waldruff, 59, Rooseveltown Road, Massena, also was charged Wednesday with drinking alcohol in a vehicle when stopped on Route 37C in Massena, state police said. His BAC was 0.10 percent, police said.

■ Peter R. Young, 45, of 222 Wealtha Ave., was stopped by Watertown police at 3:30 a.m. Saturday on the 500 block of Coffeen Street. His BAC was 0.14 percent, police said.

Charged with boating while intoxicated:

■ Jeffrey P. Shannon, 33, of 30319 Andrews Road, Black River, also was charged by state park police with exceeding the 5-mph harbor zone speed limit and having insufficient personal flotation devices. His arrest occurred at 8:45 p.m. June 27 at the Alexandria Bay village dock. Police said he tested at 0.07 percent BAC, but he is cited under "common law," based on officers' observations.
