9 motorists face alcohol- or drug-related counts

The following were charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

■ Nicholas A. Austill, 19, LaFargeville, was traveling south on Barnes Settlement Road, town of Alexandria, when his vehicle slid off the right side of the road and struck a ditch and a tree, Jefferson County sheriff's deputies said. His blood alcohol content was listed as 0.16 percent. He additionally was charged with speeding. State law establishes 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication.

■ Kenneth L. Putney, 23, of 10860 Route 37, Lisbon, also was charged Friday with resisting arrest, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said. Deputies said Mr. Putney refused a breath sobriety test after he was stopped in the town of Canton, and his blood alcohol content could not be determined. He was arraigned in Town Court and released to probation supervision.

■ Kristie A. LaCerte, 19, Philadelphia, was stopped by state police at 8:20 a.m. Saturday along Elm Ridge Road, town of LeRay. She also was charged with speeding and underage consumption of alcohol. Police did not provide her BAC.

■ Jessica Anguiano, 18, Fort Drum, was pulled over by state police at 2:30 a.m. Sunday along Route 11 in the town of Pamelia. She additionally was charged with having improper headlights, driving without a license and underage consumption of alcohol. Police did not provide her BAC.

■ Jon A. Strobele, 34, Albion, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, making an unsafe lane change, crossing hazard markings and aggravated DWI, which has a BAC threshold of 0.18 percent. Police stopped him at 10:15 a.m. Saturday along Interstate 81 in the town of Pamelia. His BAC was not provided by police.

■ Lawrence A. O'Shea, 51, Dexter, was stopped by state police at 10 a.m. Thursday along County Route 59 in Dexter. He was charged with aggravated DWI. Police did not provide his BAC.

■ Rick Tallman, 54, Carthage, was pulled over by state police shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday along Route 3 in Wilna. His BAC was not available Sunday.

■ Tyler Hapeman, 25, of 61 County Route 9, Bombay, was charged Saturday with felony DWI, state police said. The felony charge indicates a prior DWI conviction within the past 10 years. Troopers said Mr. Hapeman's blood alcohol content was 0.20 percent when his vehicle was stopped on County Route 47, town of Stockholm. He was arraigned in Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $500 bail or $1,000 bond.

Charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs:

■ James L. Kahelalis, 30, of 2493 Route 58, Edwards, was charged Friday by state police. Troopers said Mr. Kahelalis was on Soma, a prescription pain medication, when he lost control of his vehicle on Route 11, town of Gouverneur.

He allegedly failed to report the incident and left his vehicle partially blocking the road while he went in search of someone to help him pull it out of the ditch, state police said. Troopers said he also was charged with failure to keep right, parking on pavement, having an unsafe tire and speed not reasonable.
