This is in response to the letter sent by Bruce Krug. If Mr. Krug has ever seen the section "What Lewis County Legislature has done" in the paper, he would notice that whenever an all-terrain vehicle issue has been voted on Rick Lucas abstains every time.

As for the ATV map, it was not impossible to have a correct map, in fact we have a correct map. The problem was the person who was making the map. This person had other ideas about how the map should look.

Mr. Krug complains about the trail coordinator living outside of the county. Well, Warren Rosenthal, former county economic development director, lived considerably farther. Also the trail coordinator works with recreation, and Mr. Krug detests recreation of any kind. When it comes right down to it, this is just another way for Mr. Krug to want to do away with recreation in Lewis County.

As for the environment, practice what you preach. Mr. Krug should look in his own backyard. I wouldn't be surprised if there was junk farm equipment lying around.

That goes for the Department of Environmental Conservation. They are so worried about what the ATVs are doing they are not paying attention to the flooding that the beavers are causing to farm land, forests and flooding over seasonal roads. Some of the flooding is even going into camps, but heaven forbid if you touch a beaver without their permission or anything else in New York State concerning state land.

These anti-recreationists complain about ATVs being on pavement. Then talk to Judy Drabicki, DEC Region 6 director. If it wasn't for her and the DEC in Albany, we wouldn't be on paved roads unless it was absolutely necessary.

Mr. Krug and the rest of the anti-recreationists are always quoting the vehicle and traffic laws. The Ten Commandments are set in stone, not the vehicle and traffic law. There is not a single law in this country that is set in stone.
