Former Fort Drum soldier dies in motorcycle crash

A former 10th Mountain Division soldier who was a student at Syracuse University died in a motorcycle crash July 15.

Danny G. Facto, 29, lost control of his 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on East Taft Road in Cicero at 11:30 p.m. Onondaga County sheriff's deputies said he was thrown from the vehicle. He was a junior at the College of Human Ecology, majoring in social work.

Mr. Facto served for six and a half years and was stationed at Fort Drum. He left the service as a sergeant. According to family members, he deployed twice with the 10th Mountain Division to Afghanistan as a squad leader and received a Purple Heart during his service.

The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Hendricks Chapel at Syracuse University. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Traub Funeral Home, 7975 Route 31, Bridgeport.
