A Fort Drum soldier was killed Friday in Afghanistan.
Spc. Justin D. Coleman, 21, of Spring Hill, Fla., died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit using small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Nuristan Province, according to the Fort Drum Public Affairs office.
Spc. Coleman was deployed to Afghanistan in January as an infantryman of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team.
He joined the Army in June 2007 and came to Fort Drum in October 2007. He is survived by his wife, Nicole, and his mother and father.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry).
Spc. Coleman's awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
