CARTHAGE — Four people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a garbage truck collided head-on with a dump truck on Route 3 in the town of Wilna.

State police said two garbage trucks registered to Williamson Services, Natural Bridge, were traveling together just before 3 p.m. when the lead truck slowed to allow a motorcyclist to turn into the parking lot at 2 Charlie's Roadhouse.

The driver of the second garbage truck, Alex J. St. Louis, 20, of 40694 Texas Road, was unable to slow in time and swerved around the first truck, into the path of a dump truck operated by Patrick J. Marzano, 66, of 29219 Old Town Spring Road, Chaumont.

The vehicles collided, with the dump truck operated by Mr. Marzano overturning and skidding down the road. The Marzano vehicle was then struck by a vehicle operated by Dustin K. Rogers, 23, of 35410 County Route 36, who was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.

Mr. St. Louis, Mr. Marzano and a passenger in the St. Louis vehicle, Timothy L. O'Connor, 30, Route 3, Natural Bridge, were taken to Carthage Area Hospital, where they were treated for head cuts and released.

Mr. Rogers was taken to the same hospital, where he was being treated Tuesday evening for internal injuries, police said.

Mr. St. Louis was ticketed for failure to keep right and not wearing a seat belt, while his passenger, Mr. O'Connor, was also cited for no seat belt. Mr. Rogers was ticketed for having an uninspected vehicle.
