More information given on soldier killed in attack

FORT DRUM — More information was released Tuesday about the 10th Mountain Division soldier killed Friday in Afghanistan.

Spc. Alexander J. Miller, 21, was from Clermont, Fla., joined the Army in January 2007 and came to Fort Drum in June 2007. He was an infantryman with the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

He died Friday of injuries suffered during a small-arms and rocket-propelled grenade attack in Nuristan Province.

His awards include the Purple Heart and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He deployed in January with the 3rd Brigade and was stationed south of Kabul. He is survived by his mother and brother.

He was the 18th soldier with the 3rd Brigade to die since that deployment began.
