Mason claims race named after son

LAFARGEVILLE — John Mason will never forget his IMCA modified victory Friday night at Can-Am Motorsports Park.

Mason won the Tyler Mason Memorial race, a 15-lap feature named after John and Tammy Mason's son, who was killed, along with his sister Logan Ann and grandmother VeVa Parkinson, in a house fire near Cape Vincent in 2001.

Mason beat Dale Caswell to the checkered flag for the win. Dale Jewett finished third.

Justin Haers won the 30-lap modified/358 modified feature with Chris Higgins and Billy Dunn finishing second and third, respectively. Chris Raabe collected the win in the 25-lap sportsman race. Luke Whittaker and Jordan Bennett rounded out the top three.

Caswell came back to win the 12-lap crate late model feature, and Rod Wadforth won the 15-lap street stock race. JR Durham won the 12-lap street stock feature, and David Rogers claimed the 12-lap pure stock race.

RAABE WINS AT THUNDER ALLEY

Chris Raabe took the lead on lap 13 and held it for the remainder of the 25-lap sportsman feature Saturday night at Thunder Alley Motorsports Park. Raabe collected the win over Brandon Sweet and Jeff Rowe.

Dave Pope claimed the street stocks feature, Dale Jewett won the IMCA modified feature, and Joe Garafalo took the victory in mod lites. Zak Petrie was tops in the thunder cars.

RAMOS WINS MAIN EVENT AT AIS

Mike Ramos raced to a victory during the GotGoodCheese.com 500 Saturday night at Adirondack International Speedway in New Bremen.

Ellen Sullivan (ladies trucks), Joe Bourgeois (men's trucks) and Tim Ingersoll (sport compact) also earned checkered flags.

BROWNELL JR. TAKES FIRST

Jeff Brownell Jr. won the big block modified feature Saturday night at Canandaigua Speedway. Matt Sheppard placed second and Justin Haers rounded out the top three.

Dan Wiesner finished first in the sportsman modifieds, followed by Ryan Susice and Eric Gugiere.

Nate Peckham picked up the win in street stocks, and Alex Morris took the victory in pure stocks.

HAT TRICK FOR FULLER

Tim Fuller of Watertown continued his late model winning streak on the World of Outlaws tour Friday night, winning the 50-lap A-main race at the Bedford (Pa.) Speedway.

Fuller had won the two previous late model series races, too. The Edwards native took the pole position for the feature, but he was outgunned for the lead at the start by Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa. Fuller regained the lead on lap 28 and went on to collect $10,650 for his race team.

POIRIER WINS SPRINTS

Steve Poirier of St.-Matieu de Beloeil, Quebec, grabbed the lead on lap 13 on a restart and went on to win the 25-lap Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints race Friday night at the Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne. Justin Berger and Alain Bergeron finished second and third, respectively, in the SUNY Canton-sponsored race.

Carey Terrance won his third DIRTcar 358-modified feature of the season at the track. Dale Planck finished second and Perry Francis took third. Louise Jackson came away with the win in the pro stocks with Jody Swamp and Travis Back rounding out the top three.

Mike Wilcox won the SUNY Canton street stock feature, and Nolan Swamp claimed the bandits race.

SHEPPARD WINS AGAIN

Matt Sheppard of Waterloo made it three straight wins in the modified division Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway. Chuck Bower finished second and Larry Wight was third.
