It took Watertown High School senior faceoff specialist Tommy Capone less than three weeks to decide Brown University would be his next lacrosse destination.
"I want to play and get the best education I can," Capone said. "That was a huge factor."
It didn't hurt that Capone really liked Brown coach Lars Tiffany.
"He called me the first time on July 1," Capone said. "We had been just sending letters. I visited on July 2, and he showed me around. He just seemed like a really cool guy."
Two weeks passed and Capone made his decision, verbally committing to play for the Bears. He won't officially sign his letter of intent until October or later, when recruits are first allowed to sign by the NCAA.
For Capone, that day isn't something he ever expected to happen.
"I just played lacrosse," he said. "I didn't really think about (playing Division I). I never had a goal like that. I just played as hard as I could every day and whatever happened, happened."
Capone comes in with a career faceoff win record of 923-for-1291 (71 percent). He reached 80 percent last season.
