Top-10 Thursday: Serial Killers/Slashers
Rob Zombie's Halloween II opens tomorrow. Friday the 13th released earlier this year, and I think it's time to release my list for best slasher and serial killer flicks. The Saw movies sucked. Enjoy and leave your favorites or any thoughts in the comments section below.
-
10. I Know What You Did Last Summer - There are certainly better movies, but for a good, modern and original (no remakes) horror film, this was a pleasant surprise.
-
9. Scream - Never has making fun of other slasher flicks been so much fun... and so terrifying. It also resurrected Drew Barrymore's career.
-
8. Zodiac - Based on a true story, this drama/horror film has suspense, intelligence and the standard slayings... but done with taste.
-
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Terrifying. That is all.
-
6. Candyman - Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman. I remember after watching this with my dad, we stood in front of the mirror and did the chant. I did not die, but I nearly scared myself to death.
-
5. A Nightmare on Elm Street - No one slept for days, I've read, and with good reason. Freddy ushered in a new, psychological slasher. Not even your dreams are safe.
-
4. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer - Disturbingly honest. I feel like this is how most actual serial killers act.
-
3. Friday the 13th - The original was excellent and made Jason a household name... and he wasn't even in the original save for a few precious seconds at the end.
-
2. Psycho - Classic Hitchcock.
-
1. Halloween - Michael Myers holds a special place in my heart. Is there a more goosebump-enducing theme song out there? I don't think so.
