Troopers halt car, accuse
four of having marijuana


OGDENSBURG — Four people were accused of having small amounts of marijuana Tuesday when troopers stopped a car on County Route 6 in the town of Oswegatchie.


A search of the car found a hypodermic needle.


The driver, Lindsay M. Brown, 20, Heuvelton, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of marijuana and single count of having an uninspected vehicle, state police said.


Two passengers, John R. LaJoy, 23, of 149 Old State Road, Rensselaer Falls, and Sierra M. Rainwater, 21, of 147 Tallman Road, were each charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.


A third passenger, Justin R. Butler, 18, of 681 County Route 14, Rensselaer Falls, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of marijuana and single count of having a hypodermic needle.


All four were issued appearance tickets for Sept. 2 in Oswegatchie Town Court.





Man charged with theft
of copper pipe, aluminum


Joseph M. Cousins Jr., 23, of 678 Bronson St., was jailed Wednesday after being arrested by Watertown police on three charges, including second-degree burglary.


With bail set by Watertown City Judge James C. Harberson at $5,000, he was placed in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.


He also is cited with fourth-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny, and awaits grand jury action.


Police allege that he cut a window screen to enter the building at 545 Pearl St. early Monday and stole copper pipe and aluminum.


The property is owned by George D. Toper, 503 E. Main St.


Pair charged with having
7 pounds of pot in trunk


MADRID — Two Herkimer County men were accused of having seven pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a car when stopped Tuesday night on Route 310 for speeding.


Scott F. Zoeckler, 38, Little Falls, and Randy L. Decker, 29, Cold Brook, were each charged Tuesday with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, state police said.


Both were arraigned in Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.





Teenager faces sex charge


BRASHER FALLS — Nicholas J. Vankennen, 17, Stockholm, was charged Monday with sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor, for allegedly having sex with an underage girl without her consent, state police said. He was issued an appearance ticket for Brasher Town Court.





Police cite Adams woman
with possession of cocaine


An Adams woman was found possessing cocaine Tuesday evening during a vehicle stop on Interstate 81 in the town of Ellisburg, according to the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force.


The arrest of Jasma M. Ryan, 23, of 6222 Baker Road, about 6:20 p.m. was in connection with an investigation the task force conducted with the state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team. She is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.


Police said she had 3.5 grams of cocaine packaged for sale and digital scales.


Town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky set bail at $5,000, sending her to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building. She awaits grand jury action.
