OGDENSBURG — The death of an Alexandria Bay man stemming from a one-car accident late Friday in the town of Hammond has been ruled accidental.

An autopsy found that Matthew R. Schultz, 21, of 45616 Otter Road, died of massive internal injuries, St. Lawrence County Coroner James M. Sienkiewycz said. The results of toxicology tests are pending.

The autopsy was performed Monday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center by forensic pathologist Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone.

Mr. Schultz was driving east on DuBois Road shortly before 10 p.m. Friday when he lost control of a 1992 Jeep Wrangler on a curve, state police said. The vehicle went off the north shoulder and hit a few boulders and rolled over before ejecting Mr. Schultz, who wasn't wearing a seat belt.

He was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, where he later died. An accident report listed speed as a factor.
