Top-10 Thursday: Indie Comedies
Here are my selections for Independent Comedies. Some of these are well know and would be considered mainstream now, but at their release, they were in few theaters and not many people initially saw them.
-
10. Election - Very funny, very crude, very strange. It's glorious from start to finish.
-
9. Best in Show - If you haven't caught this one after the annual dog show on Comedy Central, then you really are missing out.
-
8. Office Space - I show it my "Oh face" each time I watch it.
-
7. Clerks - Genius.
-
6. Swingers - Dating genius. A user comment from EW.com's top-10 most haunting scenes in cinema: "I can't believe you left off Mike's multiple answering machine messages from Swinger."
-
5. Napoleon Dynamite - "Tina, you fat lard, come get some dinner!"
-
4. Juno - I can watch this over and over again.
-
3. Junebug - Heartwarming, touching, funny and the first time I fell in love with Amy Adams.
-
2. Rushmore - Possibly the greatest school comedy of all time. It is dark, twisted and hilarious throughout. Too bad Jason Schwartzman hasn't done diddly since.
-
1. Being John Malkovich - "Malkovich malkovich malkovich malkovich?"
