A Movie in Three Dimensions
In my research this week on upcoming movies for the month, I noticed a peculiar listing for the Watertown theater.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs opens Sept. 18. On the Fandango.com listing for the Regal in the Salmon Run Mall, it displays this phrase: “Digital 3D Showtimes.”

Hooray! Hopefully.
Those who watched GI Joe: Rise of Cobra after it's opening week saw it in Theater 8 – the second largest theater in the mall. That's because GI Joe was played on the Regal's new digital projector.
That was step one. The theater now has digital capability, which is required for 3-D movies. Apparently it didn't have the 3-D lens, which explains The Final Destination's place in the small theater.
That appears to have changed, if Fandango is right. The Regal marketing director could not be reached and employees at the Regal in Watertown aren't permitted to comment to the media directly.
I'm crossing my fingers because I've heard 3-D is pretty awesome.
It's not all good however, because 3-D movies mean higher ticket prices. Well, that's not entirely true. The ticket price for the actual movie will be the same, but there will be an additional charge for the glasses, which will be included within the price. I do not know if you can keep the glasses or if that is a rental fee.
Note: According to jscinemas.com, the Roxy Theater in Potsdam is also working on 3-D projection. The Web site says the lens should be ready by Sept. 18 for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
