DEXTER — Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phillipson, Alfred, observed their 60th wedding anniversary at their summer home on Pillar Point. The couple will take a Caribbean cruise in January, when they return to Florida for the winter.
Mr. Phillipson, son of the late Louis and Celia Phillipson, and Rita Mecomonaco, daughter of the late Charles and Dora Mecomonaco, were married Aug. 28, 1949, at St. Mary's Church, Evans Mills, with the Rev. J. Karlton Dewey officiating.
Mr. Phillipson graduated from Watertown High School and joined the Navy in 1946. He attended St. Lawrence University, Canton, for two years, graduated in 1951 from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, and received his master's degree from Alfred University.
Mrs. Phillipson graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy, Watertown, and was employed by Ruddell Business Machine Co., Watertown, until her marriage.
The couple has lived in Alfred for the past 46 years, where Mr. Phillipson was a professor of mathematics at SUNY Alfred. He also taught at Watertown School of Commerce and during the summer at Jefferson Community College. Mrs. Phillipson worked in the alumni office and peer tutor program at SUNY Alfred. Both retired in 1990.
The couple has a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Diane Phillipson, Bath; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice and Brad Burdick, Alfred Station, Jo-Anne and Paul Freeland, Almond, and Julie Phillipson, Buffalo; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
