A few years ago, seven homeowners in New London, Conn., tried to prevent the city from taking their waterfront homes for development purposes.

The case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled 5-4 that New London could use eminent domain to force the homeowners to sell their property.

That was in 2005. Four years later, the multimillion-dollar residential, hotel conference, research and development project has not materialized. The land is being used as a state park, providing a few jobs, the Associated Press reports.

Perhaps this was not such a wise decision.
