Here is a list of the groups and individuals that backed a candidate in the past week in the 23rd Congressional District race:

Douglas L. Hoffman,Conservative candidate:

■ Club for Growth, a Washington, D.C.-based group that supports candidates who believe in lower taxes, limited government and Social Security reform, among other things.

This is the group's first endorsement of a candidate who is running solely on the Conservative Party line. The support could help Mr. Hoffman raise campaign funds. Club for Growth's members donated $19.7 million in 2007-08 to the club, its political action committee and the candidates it endorsed.

■ Fred D. Thompson, a former U.S. senator from Tennessee, a television and movie actor, and one-time Republican candidate for president in 2008.

■ State Troopers Police Benevolent Association, which represents more than 6,000 active and retired members of the state police. It is unknown how many members live in the district.

William L. Owens,Democratic candidate:

■ 1199 Service Employees International Union United Health Care Workers East. The union, one of the state's largest, says it represents several thousand employees who work in the district, including those at Mercy of Northern New York and Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown; Carthage Area Hospital; E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur; Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, and Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.

Members will support Mr. Owens through mail, phone and door-to-door campaigns, union leaders said. The union spent $548,812 on Rep. M. Scott Murphy during a special election in the 20th Congressional District last spring.

Dierdre K. Scozzafava,Republican candidate:

■ Kay Stafford, widow of state Sen. Ronald B. Stafford, and her children: Damian, Brooke and Parker Stafford and George McCabe.

Mr. Stafford served 37 years in the state Senate, representing a district that stretched from Plattsburgh to Glens Falls. The Republican retired in 2002 and died in 2005.

Mr. Stafford also was managing partner at Stafford, Owens, Curtin & Trombley. Mr. Owens is a managing partner at that firm.

■ Oswego County All-Terrain Vehicle Club

The club says it has more than 1,200 members.
