The Central New York Community Action Program Council, Region 9 of the United Auto Workers endorsed Republican Dede Scozzafava for Congress this morning.

"The 23rd Congressional District is a blue-collar, working district," the congressional candidate said in a statement. "I appreciate the endorsement of these hard-working men and women, who have been hit as hard as anyone by the economic challenges our nation is battling.

"It's now more important than ever for us to work together to overcome these challenges and create more good-paying jobs throughout the 23rd Congressional District. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work for every family of Central and Northern New York."

This group, which represents members in Central and Northern New York, has previously endorsed:

Ms. Scozzafava's husband, Ron McDougall, is the president of Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties Central Trades and Labor Council. He was, until August, the United Auto Workers joint program representative at General Motors' Powertrain plant in Massena.

Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Candidate, was endorsed this afternoon by the state Right to Life politicial action committee.

"We appreciate the strong stand that Doug has taken on behalf of those who are least able to protect themselves - unborn children, people with disabilities and dependent elderly whose lives are threatened by abortion or euthanasia," said Barbara Meara, chairman, in a statement. "Since Doug Hoffman is the only pro-life candidate running for the only open NY Congressional seat in the upcoming November election, we urge people from across the state to support Doug's campaign."
