HENDERSON — A woman died in an accident on Route 3 in the town of Henderson that was reported at 7:37 a.m. Monday, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Michelle D. Salisbury, 22, of 8975 County Route 68, was pronounced dead on arrival at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Her eastbound vehicle crossed into the westbound lane on a long sweeping curve, left the pavement and struck a utility pole, Detective Scott E. Sterling said. She was wearing her seat belt, and the air bag in her 2007 Pontiac G6 deployed, he said.

She was still alive at the accident scene, he said.

Officials said there was no indication of the cause of the accident, which occurred shortly before it was discovered. Mr. Sterling said there were no skid marks.

Miss Salisbury, a 2006 graduate of Belleville Henderson Central School, was engaged to be married, he said. She was believed to be en route to work at a bank, the detective said.

An autopsy was conducted in the afternoon, but results were not available. The accident remains under investigation.
