CANTON — Alice Lu Quackenbush, 72, of Miner Street, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. She was the wife of Everett R. Quackenbush, Sr.

A Requiem Mass will be Thursday, October 8th at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, Canton w/ Mother Evette Austin as celebrant. Calling hours Wednesday, October 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the church, Canton. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son Everett R., Jr. and wife Judy of Hoosick Falls, NY, a daughter Lynn Snow and husband Edward of Canton, four grandchildren, Jeanna Kuzia and Jessica McComish of Dalton, Mass. and Philip and Christopher Snow of Canton, three great-grandchildren, Jaden Kuzia, Jonah Schichtl and John Steven McComish and her twin sister, Arlene Monell of Canton. She was preceded in death by a sister, "Dolly" Ilg and her step-mother, Ruby Monell.

Born September 12, 1937 in Newburgh, NY a daughter of Donald M. and Eleanor (Guest) Monell she graduated Newburgh Free Academy in 1955. Prior to her marriage to Everett R. Quackenbush on Oct. 6, 1957 in Newburgh, she worked at the Telephone Co. in Newburgh, NY. After moving to Canton and raising her children, she started work at St. Lawrence University, retiring after 27 years as a secretary in the Geology Dept. Alice was a member of the NYS Assoc. of Educational Office Professionals, Grace Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of Daughters of the King. She and her husband were members of St. Lawrence Hockey Boosters for many years and would take hockey players in during the Thanksgiving Tournaments. The couple also enjoyed attending numerous Lion's Club functions, especially the trips to Brockville, Ontario and Syracuse.

She enjoyed spending time in her flower garden, boating and bass fishing on the St. Lawrence River, camping at Higley in the summertime, crossword puzzles and crocheting. But the most important thing to Alice was her family and she was well known and will be remembered by many for her infectious laugh.
