Doug Hoffman, the Conservative candidate in the 23rd Congressional District, said Friday that he applauded House Minority Leader John Boehner for calling for the regislation of "embattled" Rep. Charles Rangel "and called on his opponents, in the name of good government to have 'the courage and fortitude to do the same.'"
"How can we expect the American people to have faith in our elected officials and our system of government, when serious allegations swirl around the individual in charge of drafting of our nation’s tax legislation?" the candidate asked in a release distributed to the press. "For over three decades, I have been a practicing CPA, and if a client came to me with similar situation I would tell them they were in serious trouble and suggest they hire a good defense lawyer. I find it amazing that Mr. Rangel has the arrogance to remain in the Ways and Means Committee Chairmanship, much less in Congress itself. How can we expect the taxpayers of America to do what is right, when the Chairman of Ways and Means seems so well practiced in doing what is wrong?"
The House Ethics Committee is in the midst of a year-plus investigation of Mr. Rangel, a Brookyln Democrat. He is accused of filing inaccurate forms with Congress detailing his personal assets.
