BEAVER FALLS — Attendance at Beaver River Central School District improved dramatically this week after the flu outbreak last week. But Tuesday's absentee count of 74 students still was more than on a normal day.
Absenteeism in the district peaked Oct. 6 at 335 students, or 35 percent.
This week, district staff members are monitoring students who are coming back after being sick to make sure they are not contagious, Superintendent Leueen Smithling said.
If teachers see a student exhibiting flu-like symptoms, they have been told to send the student to the nurses' office to be evaluated, Mrs. Smithling said.
