Massena's Movieplex 8 closes with others in chain

MASSENA — Movie-goers in Massena will need to find a new theater to watch their films on the big screen.

Cinema North, the Rutland, Vt.-based parent corporation of the Massena Movieplex 8, announced that as of Monday they were closing the doors on their existing operations.

The Massena Movieplex 8 in the Harte Haven Shopping Plaza closed its doors over the weekend. The theater opened in the mid 1990s.

Posters announcing current and upcoming movies have been removed, the marquee that advertises the current showings is empty and signs on the doors say they're closed until further notice.

The nearest operating theaters are in Potsdam, Canton and Ogdensburg.
