Live from Appleton: Oct. 16-17

I will be blogging and tweeting live throughout the weekend games here on “Casstle of the Saints” for those of you who want some of my opinions on what I see on the ice different than what you may hear on the radio.

I usually get to Appleton 90 minutes before game time and will start blogging and updating things then.

I'll also be tweeting at twitter.com/SLUHockey.

You can follow both of those Friday beginning at about 5:30 p.m.

Moss to start one game

When I last spoke to coach Joe Marsh, he said Alex Petizian is still the main goalie. Fans will note that Petizian played in only one of the two Icebreaker Tournament game over the weekend — a 3-0 loss to UMass-Lowell.

Marsh said the five goalies on the team require him to move players around and see what he has for depth at the position. He stated during the first week of practice that he breaks the season into three phases: Pre-ECAC, ECAC, and postseason. So until ECAC play starts (Nov. 6 against Princeton), Marsh said we'll see a number of different goalies.

We've already seen Petizian and Kain Tisi. Petizian will likely start against RIT, and sophomore Robby Moss should play against Niagara on Saturday. There is still Joe Spadaccini and David Grilk yet to see game time this season.

This is all pending, of course, and Marsh has already changed lineups and rotations on gameday.

Around the ECAC

Here's Friday night's schedule of games:

Niagara at Clarkson (0-2), 7 p.m.

Colgate (1-0-1) at University of Nebraska-Omaha, 7 p.m.

RPI (1-1) at Alaksa-Anchorage, 7 p.m.

Union (2-0) at St. Cloud, 7 p.m.
