T.R. Vandewater

CARTHAGE — Funeral services for Thomas Roy Vandewater will be held Thursday at 1:00 pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-9 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Vandewater died Sunday morning, October 18th at his son's home in Glenfield.

Mr. Vandewater was born in Carthage on August 19, 1941, the son of Roy Peter and the late Rita A. Legary Vandewater. He was a 1959 graduate of Carthage Central High School and later attended Jefferson Community College. He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1962. He married Karol Anne Flynn on February 27, 1965 at St. James Church in Carthage. He was a teller for Marine Midland Bank in Carthage and then was a draftsman for Carthage Machine Company, Parker-Soper in Watertown, Fort Drum and Lundy Construction where he became Vice President. In 1985, he moved to Glens Falls to work as Vice President for J. M. Weller Associates and in 1993, moved to Statesville NC where he was project manager for G.L. Wilson, retiring in 2003 due to health problems.

He is survived by his wife Karol A. of Statesville, NC, a daughter and her husband Rhonda M. and Thomas Peek of Rockhill, SC, two sons: David P. Vandewater and Tara Marzano of Glenfield and Jeffrey T. Vandewater of Statesville, NC, 5 Grandchildren and one Great Granchild, his father, Peter Vandewater, Carthage, a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara A. and Ronald Grover of West Carthage and several nieces and nephews.

He was a former member of the West Carthage Vol. Fire Dept. and Hornets Racing Team, BPOE Elks Lodge # 1762 of Carthage and a high school basketball referee and basketball coach. He was an avid golfer and former member of Carlowden Country Club. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis County Hospice, PO Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.
