Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate for the 23rd Congressional District, is getting a welcome boost from Glenn Beck.
The conservative commentator had Mr. Hoffman on his radio show Wednesday to talk about his candidacy. Mr. Beck didn't offer his endorsement, but did invite Mr. Hoffman onto his television show Thursday.
That means Mr. Hoffman's appeal for money and support is going out to 6.5 million listeners on the radio and untold amounts more of those watching Mr. Beck's television program.
“I believe this is a defining moment for the party,” Mr. Hoffman told the radio host. “As a lifelong Republican, it’s time for me and everybody else to reclaim the soul of the Republican Party.”
Mr. Beck was impressed by Mr. Hoffman’s support for allowing competition between insurance companies across state lines.
“My platform is for less government regulations and red tape, less spending, less taxes and basically, getting our freedoms back that are being taken away one-by-one by the legislation that we see passing lately,” the candidate also told the radio host.
Mr. Hoffman said he does not support amnesty for illegal immigrants, but does support making regulations to document non-residents who decide to work in this country.
