...another supporter of one candidate telling an opponent to drop out.
This time it's Jefferson County Republican Party Chairman Don Coon and St. Lawrence GOP Chairman Nancy Martin, who both support Republican Dede Scozzafava, asking Doug Hoffman, the Conservative candidate to drop out.
"Doug Hoffman looked me in the eyes, raised his right hand and pledged to support the Republican nominee in this district," said Mr. Coon. "He then turned around and declared his candidacy for this seat, rendering his oath utterly meaningless. Doug Hoffman lacks the basic integrity we need in our Congressional representative. He also lacks a fundamental understanding of the needs of this district, making him unfit to serve as our voice in Washington, D.C. The only role Hoffman has in this race is that of a spoiler, potentially costing the Republican Party a congressional seat it has held since the Civil War. Doug Hoffman needs to drop out immediately and throw his unequivocal support behind Dede Scozzafava."
Mrs. Martin added: "Note to voters of the 23rd Congressional District: Doug Hoffman cannot be trusted. Doug Hoffman claims to be a conservative, but he seems to forget that honesty and integrity are the most important qualities for conservatives. Mr. Hoffman lied to my face, and he does not deserve to call himself a conservative. Other than appearing on cable news programs and releasing comical poll numbers, Hoffman adds nothing to this race but spoiling a safe Republican seat. Mr. Hoffman should immediately drop out of this race and throw his full support behind our Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava."
Yesterday, it was five Republican Assembly members asking Mr. Hoffman to drop out, while Mr. Hoffman's spokesman was telling the media that Ms. Scozzafava should drop out.
These kind of press releases evoke the same feeling you'd have if you were watching your soon-to-be-divorced parents engaged in a nasty, name-calling fight in a very public place.
