U.S. Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand, D-N.Y., is scheduled to fly to New York on Friday to endorse Bill Owens, the Democrats' candidate in the 23rd Congressional District, during an event at the Tug Hill Vineyards, Lowville.

Hopefully, this Lowville event won't end like the last one did.

Mrs. Gillibrand's north country visit will start at 12:15 p.m. at the Watertown Airport, where she'll meet with Jefferson County Administrator Bob Hagemann to discuss airport development opportunities. After the winery stop, the senator will meet with Lewis County dairy farmers at the Lewis County Cooperative Extension, Outer Stowe Street, to discuss the dairy crisis. That's scheduled for 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Mr. Owens has announced his morning schedule. He's apparently eating breakfast at three Watertown locations - 7:45 a.m. at the Crystal Restaurant, 87 Public Sq.; 8:30 a.m. at Mister Rick's Bakery, 525 Mill St.; and 9:15 a.m. at Shorty's Restaurant, 1280 Coffeen St.

Three breakfasts - wow. I hope he brings his appetite.
