Rimmer's goal lifts Potsdam into final

MASSENA — T.J. Rimmer scored in the 79th minute to lead No. 3 Potsdam to a 2-1 victory over No. 2 Canton in a Section 10 Class B boys soccer semifinal game Wednesday at Massena High School.

The Sandstoners (7-7-3 overall) will play top-seeded Ogdensburg Free Academy in the championship game at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at Massena High School.

Colin Howard opened the scoring for Canton (8-8) in the ninth minute. Scott Bartenstein tied the game with a goal in the 30th minute.

OFA 3, SALMON RIVER 0

Eric Whitcombe scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Blue Devils past the No. 4 Shamrocks (5-11-1) in the other semifinal at Massena High School.

Paul LaPlante and Eric Sweeney also scored for OFA (12-3-1), which produced all of its goals in the final 19 minutes of the game.

Tyler Carrow made three saves for the shutout.

BRUSHTON-MOIRA 1,

MADRID-WADDINGTON 0

Adrian Martin scored off a pass from Jason Aubrey in the 36th minute to lead the No. 3 Panthers past No. 2 Madrid-Waddington (6-6-5) in a Class C semifinal at Potsdam High School.

Brushton-Moira (5-9) will play top-seeded Norwood-Norfolk for the title at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Massena High School.

Andrew Martin made four saves for the shutout.

CHEERLEADING

WARRIORS, LIONS VICTORIOUS

On Tuesday, Indian River and General Brown again captured top honors at the Frontier League fall cheerleading competition at Carthage Central School.

The Warriors earned the "A" Division title, while the Lions were the top team in the "B" Division. Both teams also won their respective divisions last year.

South Jefferson claimed second place, and Carthage was third in the "A" Division.

In the "B" Division, Sandy Creek took second place, followed by South Lewis at third.
