Cyclones dominate in Class A opener

Malcolm Lynch and Chris Waterbury each supplied one goal and one assist as No. 4 Watertown claimed a 5-0 Class A first round victory over No. 13 Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (6-11) at Watertown High School.

Will Jaacks, Matt Cleaver and Justin Eassa also scored, while Tim Madden made one save for Watertown (12-3-2), which hosts No. 12 Oneida in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

NOTTINGHAM 5, INDIAN RIVER 0

The No. 6 Bulldogs recorded goals by five different players en route to the Class A first round victory over the No. 11 Warriors at Syracuse. Farid Alic, Almedin Bektic, Abu Bllity, Abdi Hirabi and Kanyea Sayon each scored for Nottingham (9-7-1).

Indian River finished the season 6-9-2.

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 4,

OTSELIC VALLEY 2

Four players netted first-half goals for the No. 8 Panthers during a Class D first round win at Belleville.

Robert Henry and Eli Anderson each scored in the opening 10 minutes for Belleville Henderson (10-5-1), while Martin Kiss and Chris Leen connected just before halftime. The Panthers earned a quarterfinal matchup Friday at No. 1 Copenhagen.

MORRISVILLE-EATON 2,

THOUSAND ISLANDS 1 (OT)

Ryan Grabiec scored the winning goal six minutes into sudden victory overtime to lift the No. 10 Warriors to the Class C first round victory over the No. 7 Vikings at Clayton.

Tyler Banker also scored, and goalie Matt Pelton turned away 21 shots for Morrisville-Eaton (8-8).

Thousand Island's Taylor Price-Kellogg scored on an assist from Andrew Kellogg to even the game with four minutes left in regulation. Ben Lauraine made seven saves for the Vikings (8-7-2).

INDIAN RIVER 61,

SOUTH JEFFERSON 29

Andre Green scored five touchdowns and rushed for 214 yards on just eight carries as the Warriors pounded the Spartans in a Section 3 crossover game at Adams.

Green scored on runs of 74, 67, 53 and 1 yards and caught a 77-yard TD pass from Zane Fish for Indian River (6-3). Fish also hit Shawn Mitchell on a 61-yard TD pass and added an 18-yard TD run. Cornelious Dukes contributed 132 yards rushing and a touchdown.

A. J. Chartrand delivered 279 yards rushing on 40 carries and he scored two touchdowns.

SOUTH LEWIS 33, WEST CANADA 0

Dylan Peebles ran for two scores and passed for another as the host Falcons won their third straight game to finish the season in a Section 3 crossover at Turin.

Peebles hit Anthony Manning on a 39-yard TD pass, and ran for scores of 31 and six yards. He finished with 145 yards on 14 carries. Charlie Dorn also scored twice for South Lewis (3-6).

GIRLS TENNIS

O'BRIEN FINISHES SECOND

Lowville's Katie O'Brien made it to the Section 3 Division 4 individual finals for the fourth time in her career before losing at Drumlins in Syracuse.

O'Brien, a senior, lost 6-1, 6-3 to Anke Von Hanstein of Manlius-Pebble Hill in the championship match. Von Hanstein also beat Lowville's Julia Guignard 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.

Both O'Brien and Guignard will return to Drumlins today to compete in the Section 3 state qualifier.

CHEERLEADING

WARRIORS, LIONS VICTORIOUS

On Tuesday, Indian River and General Brown again captured top honors at the Frontier League fall cheerleading competition at Carthage Central School.

The Warriors earned the "A" Division title, while the Lions were the top team in the "B" Division. Both teams also won their respective divisions last year.

South Jefferson claimed second place, and Carthage was third in the "A" Division.

In the "B" Division, Sandy Creek took second place, followed by South Lewis at third.
